Pretty much everyone above said it, but this is a great gi and the price makes it even better. I withstands a lot of punishment. I was originally told about it by a high level player as one of his all time favorites. It's good for the beginner as well as the expert.

Dam good light shin/instep. I got the shoe one not realizing what it was at first, but the design is slick with a Velcro strap Under the toe/foot guard to attach to your laces. They aren't nearly as good as the gel pros (of course), but great if you train anywhere other than the gym.

I bought a pair a few months ago and next to my twins small Thai pads, these are excellent. A few things they have that my Twins pads don't are a forearm pad for extra protection, padding for the straps, and an enhanced curve to better focus the kicks, knees, elbows and punches of the person you're holding pads for. Even though they're basically the same size as the twins pads, they weight more. That's the only trade off for the extras though. Great pads, made for the holder as much as the striker.

I own a few different micro-focus mitts and can honestly say that these are the best ones I have. For being so small, they have an incredible amount of cushioning, which is important if you hold pads all day. I can't recommend these enough.
